The American University

Note: We do not currently offer a document legalization (authentication) service.

The university does not currently offer a certificate authentication service. The university attests certificates with the official stamp and president’s signature, along with the registration and certificate No., which can be validated on the university’s official website (Certificate Verification Portal):

At this time, we regret to inform our valued clients that we are unable to provide a document legalization or authentication service. This is due to several factors, including the length of time and complexity of the process, as well as a shortage of staff resources. While we understand the importance of having documents properly authenticated for legal purposes, we have had to make the difficult decision to discontinue this service for the time being. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are continuously exploring options to improve and expand our services in the future. In the meantime, we sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience.

What is an apostille?

Apostille is a stamp or printed form that allows for official documents issued in one country to be legally recognized in another. Apostille has been introduced within the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents and can be used in countries which have signed the convention.

Apostille is issued in the same country that has issued the document in question. The Hague Conference website enlists all institutions issuing apostille.More information about apostille can be found here.

What does legalization mean?

Legalization is a confirmation that an official document (e.g., higher education diploma) is an original and valid one. You need to legalize a document if the country where it has been issued has not signed the Hague Convention and is not listed here.

A copy of the original documents is requested for authentication of the documents when applied by mail or in-person

  1. Notary Public (Notary’s dry seal must be next to the signature, not on a sperate paper).
  2. Authentication of the Secretary of the Local State.
  3. Authentication of the United States Department of States.
