Presents fundamental concepts, issues, and techniques associated with designing, managing, and evaluating compensation and benefits programs for increased organizational performance and competitive staffing.

Objectives

  1. Discuss the role of employees, employers, unions, and the government in the development of compensation programs.
  2. Assess the impact of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Bennett Amendment, and Executive Order 11246 on compensation practices.
  3. Outline the similarities and differences between merit pay plans and incentive pay plans.
  4. Propose a compensation survey related to a compensation plan.
  5. Explain workers’ compensation.
  6. Summarize recommended considerations prior to selecting from various types of pension plans.
  7. Categorize workers by the type of pay and benefits received.
  8. Summarize the potential impact of training and development on employee compensation.
