Description

Provides an overview of financial management principles commonly encountered in healthcare organizations. This course introduces the basic concepts of managerial financial functions, processes, financial reports, and factors affecting the financial aspects of providing healthcare services in today’s dynamic and competitive environment.

Outcomes

  1. Analyze the financial statements of health care organizations using horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, and ratio analysis
  2. Calculate and interpret liquidity ratios, profitability ratios, activity ratios, and capital structure ratios.
  3. Evaluate various capital investment alternatives
  4. Calculate and interpret internal rate of return.
  5. Interpret the major budgets and explain their relationship to each other, as well as to the income statement and balance sheet.
  6. Analyze standard costs classifications to include fixed, variable, indirect, and direct costs.
  7. Demonstrate how financial implications can be applied to current medical technology.
  8. Evaluate management’s responsibility for staffing and how staffing is affected by different financial circumstances.
